Located halfway between Spain and Italy and a few kilometers from the Mediterranean , Montpellier is a lively university city, much loved by the French themselves for its mild and sunny climate for about 300 days a year. Founded in the Middle Ages, Montpellier develops around an elegant historic center, known as the Écusson, where many bars, restaurants and shops of various kinds follow one another. The Cathedral of Montpellier and the Basilica of Notre-Dame-des-Tables are to be reported among the places of interest. The Écusson can also be visited on board the Petit Train de Montpellier, a tourist train running every 30 minutes from PIace de la Comédie.
